£800k investment to improve rural transport
Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon has welcomed the investment of £800k by Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill to improve rural transport.
The South Armagh representative said the move would help tackle rural isolation.
“The £800k announced by DARD Minister Michelle O’Neill will be used in conjunction with money from the Department of Regional Development to improve community and public transport in rural areas.
“This money will be used by Rural Community Transport Partnerships to purchase vehicles to deliver the Rural Community Transport Scheme, which services isolated rural communities.
“Many of these communities rely on public transport to get into town centres to carry out their business or to get to school or medical appointments. The new environmental friendly vehicles will ensure the isolation of these communities is reduced.
