Durkan reminds road users to use the roads safely over the Easter holiday

Environment Minister Mark H Durkan has reminded road users to take extra care over the Easter holidays.

traffic-1“As we look forward to the Easter break, we cannot afford to be complacent,” Durkan said.

“As the clocks will also be going forward on Easter Sunday, evenings will be brighter and more children will be walking and cycling and many families will be out and about enjoying the break. It is likely there will be increased cyclists and motorcyclists enjoying the better weather.

“Using the road is the most dangerous thing we do each day. Collectively, as road users, we are making thousands of decisions everyday that save lives – both our own, and the lives of those around us.

“We are all responsible for our own behaviour: drivers, passengers, motorcyclists, pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders,” he insisted.

Ignore distractions, and keep your eye on the road at all times, slow down, never ever drink and drive and always make sure you, and your passengers, wear your seatbelts.

Durkan added, “I ask all road users to remember you are responsible, not only for your own safety but for the safety of others.”
