Farry launches Further Education Implementation Plan

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry has launched a Programme for Implementation of Further Education Means Success, the new Further Education Strategy for Northern Ireland.

farry17The Minister said, “The Programme for Implementation outlines how the 21 policy commitments in Further Education Means Success will be implemented jointly by my Department and the further education sector through a programme of eight separate, but related, projects.

“The implementation of Further Education Means Success provides a unique opportunity for the forthcoming Department for the Economy, further education colleges, employers and other partners to work together to transform the professional and technical education and training system in Northern Ireland, in order to provide the most effective support to the growth of our economy, and to provide learning pathways that enable our citizens to reach their full potential.

“My Department will establish formal programme and project management governance arrangements to drive, monitor and evaluate the implementation. This will involve senior representatives from the further education sector, from my Department and from other Departments as necessary.”

The Minister continued, “Colleges will be key deliverers of a number of the Department’s other strategies, in particular the new apprenticeship and youth training systems. Consequently, the implementation of aspects of the further education strategy will take account of the implementation of related strategies.

He added, “Consequently, flexibility will be required during the implementation process to accommodate relevant changes that may occur in our economy and learning landscape.”
