Celebrate St Patrick’s Day At Newry Museum

Newry and Mourne Museum will be hosting a fantastic schedule of events for all of the family to enjoy this St Patrick’s Day.

museum17On 16th March, the Museum will be hosting an evening of traditional and popular music, with Brendan Monaghan, Vessie and Nikolay Ivanovi performing songs such as ‘The Trip to Athlone’, ‘The Road to Lisdoonvarna’, songs from Tommy Sands as well as various other pieces from cultures around the world all for the low cost of £3.

St Patricks Day will kick off at 10am with an Arts and Crafts Workshop for Children in which they can make their own designs and pendants. There are a limited number of places available for this workshop so booking is essential with a cost of £1.50. All Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This will be followed with live music from 1pmto 3pm performed by Barry Kieran and SJ McArdle who make up two-thirds of Louth contemporary folk band ‘Kern’ and will be entertaining the audience with their thunderous sets of traditional tunes vying with lyrical, atmospheric songs. Tickets for this fantastic event are priced at just £3.

As Easter is early this Easter the Museum will have Easter themed Arts and Crafts activities for children, beginning shortly after St Patricks Day, on Saturday 19th March. There will be two sessions taking place, 10.30am to 12pm and again from 1.30pm to 3pm.

There are a limited number of places available for this workshop so booking is essential with a cost of £1.50. All Children must be accompanied by an adult.

LearnSpark1Throughout the St Patricks and Easter period the Museum’s exhibitions will remain open so come along to see the changes in the main galleries and visit the temporary exhibitions ‘The World has become Smaller: transport through the ages in Newry and Mourne’ and ‘All Politics is Local: the development of local government in the Newry and Mourne area’. Open seven days a week with free entry.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Ruane said, “Newry and Mourne Museum is offering a wide range of things to do and see for both St. Patrick’s Day and Easter.

He added, “Anyone with an interest in music will have plenty to choose from and parents will have lots of arts activities for children to pick from. While the recent updates to the Museum exhibitions mean there will be something new to see when you visit the galleries.”
