Man, 36, charged with Newry arson
Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime have charged a 36 year old man with arson endangering life.
The charge relates to an incident in Cleary Crescent on 22nd June, 2015.
At around 9.15pm on the night in question, police received a report that an attempt had been made to set fire to the front door of a flat in Cleary Crescent.
Speaking to Newry Times after the incident, Inspector Jon Burrows said, “Early indications are that a flammable liquid was poured on the door from a plastic bottle before the bottle was placed at the door and set alight. Damage was caused to the door.”

The flat was not occupied at the time however a neighbour in a nearby flat was treated for some smoke inhalation according to police.
The man will appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court on 23rd March, 2016. As is normal procedure the charge will be reviewed by the PPS.
