Rogers welcomes funding for Mourne Heritage Trust
SDLP South Down MLA Seán Rogers has welcomed additional funding of £10,000 provided by Environment Minister Mark H Durkan for Mourne Heritage Trust under the Natural Environment Fund.
Speaking to Newry Times, Rogers said, “At a time when the Department of the Environment is facing down significant cuts as a result of the DUP/Sinn Féin austerity budget, this is an important allocation to be able to make to environment groups.
“This money will support biodiversity initiatives across the area as well as helping develop wildfire preparedness plans. This allocation reflects the commitment of the SDLP to preserving our natural landscape and heritage, even in times of public spending cuts.”
SDLP Councillor Colin McGrath also welcomed an allocation of £10,000 to Newry, Mourne and Downe District Council. “The allocation of £10,000 to Newry, Mourne and Down District council for biomass mapping work around the ring of Gullion and for a beach management and litter project in Lecale is great news for our local area.
He added, “We’re trying to teach young people about the importance of preserving and protecting the local environment and it’s great to have a Minister who supports that work.”
