Firefighters will showcase their range of fire and rescue skills through a number of demonstrations to recognise the proud history of firefighting in the area.

Vintage fire appliances will be on display as well as modern fire appliances to highlight how firefighting has changed through the generations. A tour of Newry Fire Station will also be available, with an opportunity to see the only Kings Police Medal awarded to a firefighter in Ireland, received by Captain James Heather KPM in 1930.

The Open Day will run from 12pm – 4pm and will include road traffic collision rescues, a chip pan demonstration and an opportunity for the public to receive fire safety advice from operational Firefighters based at Newry Fire Station.

Speaking about the event, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service Firefighter Barry Duffy said, “This is a fantastic opportunity to take a ‘behind the scenes’ look at what operational Firefighters do when attending emergency calls.

He added, “The various appliances used to deal with fire incidents and road traffic collisions will be on show; so we look forward to welcoming everyone to Newry Fire Station on Saturday for a great event.”
