Toxic dumping in South Armagh condemned

Slieve Gullion Sinn Fein Councillor Mickey Larkin has expressed his dismay at the latest dumping incidents in the area.

larkin16“Here we are barely a week into the New Year and more toxic sludge has been dumped on a South Armagh roadside,” he said.

“I was contacted by residents who are disgusted at the actions of the polluters. This solidified waste was left on the Lough Road close to Carrigan’s Pass, a beautiful part of the area and close to a number of loughs used for fishing.

“Less than 24 hours later a second incident of toxic dumping in the area was discovered. More toxic waste, destroying the environment, poisoning livestock and risking the health of local people.

He added, “There is also the cost of disposal to be considered. Money needed for essential services is diverted to clear up and dispose of this waste. The people of south Armagh do not want their health and livelihoods put at risk by those who profit by poison.”
