Daisy Hill Hospital set for £1m improvement

From mid-January, a major project to improve the Daisy Hill site will begin.

There will also be a replacement and upgrade of large sections of the hospital’s flat roof coverings amd refurbishment of the hospital’s distinctive dome entrance.

The project also includes an upgrade of the street lighting and external CCTV across the hospital site.

The project will take place in a phased approach to minimise disruption and should be completed in March 2016.

Esther Gishkori, Director of Acute Services for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust told Newry Times, “Local people will appreciate just how busy the Daisy Hill site is and as demand on our services continues to increase it is essential that we continually improve our facilities to ensure they are fit for purpose and safe for people to use.

“These external improvements are the latest development in our ongoing programme of modernisation for the hospital. We do recognise the challenges with parking on site already and are continually looking for ways to improve traffic flow around the hospital.

“This latest project will temporarily add to our traffic challenges as car parking spaces will be reduced until work is completed. Whilst we will do everything we can to minimise disruption during this time, we ask for co-operation from staff, patients and visitors while we make these improvements to the hospital,” Esther added.

The car parking pay machine will be moved to the maternity door which will be the temporary main entrance whilst the dome is being refurbished. Directional signage will be in place on site and patients are advised to leave plenty of time for parking before attending for appointments.
