Farmers urged to apply to new grant aid scheme
Sinn Féin South Down MLA Caitríona Ruane has urged farmers to apply for an important new scheme which offers substantial grant aid for their businesses.
Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane said, “My colleague, Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill, has launched the first phase of the £250 million Farm Business Improvement Scheme which will provide farmers with 40% and 50% grant aid to a maximum of £250,000.
“This represents a huge investment in our farming community and will have a major impact in South Down, where farming is the life blood for so many rural communities.
“The grant aid can be used for the construction of new farm buildings and the refurbishment of existing buildings as well as for the purchase of machinery which can improve the performance of the farm,” she continued.
“It can also be used for equipment to improve nutrient management, the installation of environmentally approved water management systems, improving resource efficiency on the farm and feasibility studies for renewable energy.
Ruane added, “The deadline for applications is 4pm on Monday 14th December. Anyone who would like more information on the scheme or assistance with the application can contact my office on 028 417 54448.”
