Murphy brands Nesbitt ‘a hypocrite’

Sinn Féin MLA Conor Murphy branded UUP leader Mike Nesbitt a hypocrite today on his stance on armed unionist gangs.

Speaking to Newry Times, Murphy said, “Mike Nesbitt’s hyprocrisy knows no bounds. He criticises Sinn Féin while cosying up to active armed loyalist gangs when it suits him.

“He has acknowledged there are areas of Newtownards controlled by the UVF. Yet he is quite happy to utilise loyalist muscle to attempt to force Orange marches through nationalist areas.

“He has also singularly failed to confront armed loyalist gangs who are tormenting their own communities through extortion, drug dealing and murder. That is the real elephant in the room.

Murphy added, “Sinn Féin opposes all criminality regardless of where it emanates from, and will continue to do so.”
