Councillor pleased action is taken to protect local beauty spot

Crotlieve Sinn Féin Councillor Michael Ruane has confirmed that Newry, Mourne and Down District Council will be taking action over the tyre dumping that is spoiling a well known Mourne beauty spot.

mournes8Councillor Ruane said, “This public viewing area on the Carmeen Road outside Hilltown, known locally as the ‘top of the world’, has been subject to the regular dumping of tyres for some time.

“I am pleased to say that, following my representations, the Council is now working with other agencies to find a resolution to this problem, which is an eyesore for locals and tourists alike.

“I am also delighted they have taken action to prevent repetition of the stealing of a picnic table there, by embedding the tables in concrete.

He added, “These facilities are for the benefit of all and I would ask those who live nearby to be vigilant and report any anti-social behaviour in the future, including littering.”
