Overhanging tree danger warning
Councillor Roisin Mulgrew has urged drivers and walkers to be aware of the dangers of overhanging trees.
“I was contacted by a number of motorists who narrowly avoided damage to their vehicles when driving behind larger vans and lorries,” she explained to Newry Times.
“Apparently the sides and tops of these vehicles are catching the branches of overhanging trees and they are being pulled completely off the trees and onto the roads.
“I have received several reports, particularly concerning the roads which run around the perimeter of Derrymore estate.
Mulgrew added, “I have been in contact with the National Trust who have promised to have the matter investigated. I have stressed the urgency of this matter as it will clearly become a much more serious issue as we head into the more stormy and wet weather of Winter.”
