A man in his seventies sustained serious injuries in the incident at his home in Clogharevan Park.
A 25 year old woman and 26 year old man were arrested by officers earlier today in the Newry area, 4th September, on suspicion of attempted murder.
The arrest follows a fresh appeal for witnesses issued by local police on Wednesday. Police described how the culprits ransacked the pensioner’s bedroom and attacked him with a sharp implement, believed to be a hook.
According to police, the victim sustained multiple serious stab wounds and remains in a critical condition in hospital.
