Fitzpatrick urges young people to exercise caution on the roads
SDLP Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick has urged young people to exercise caution near roads.
Speaking to Newry Times, she said, “Our council team are continuing to work with local residents throughout the area and with Transport NI to improve road safety. It’s especially important given the number of accidents over the summer months.
“A small lapse in concentration or a quick run across the road is all it takes for an accident to happen. People just need to remember to stop, look and listen; be careful around buses and; keep your attention on the road, not your phone. We all have a role to play in reducing tragedy on our roads. We will continue to play our part.
Fitzpatrick added, “As the school term begins again, it’s important that our young people and motorists remain vigilant and exercise more caution on the roads. I would also appeal to parents to make sure their children are aware of the dangers of playing near traffic or using busy routes on their way to school.”
