Call for cross-border cooperation to stop ‘dangerous diffing’

Sinn Féin councillor Liz Kimmins has called on the Gardai and PSNI to work together to stop young people from driving dangerously on the old Dublin Road.

LizKimmins“Large crowds of young people have been gathering on the old Dublin Road and either racing cars or tearing around in cars doing handbrake turns,” she explained to Newry Times.

“This is extremely dangerous and could easily lead to the death or serious injury of those taking part or innocent pedestrians or motorists. We have also heard reports that shots were fired at one of these events recently.

Kimmins added, “Last summer the Gardai and PSNI worked together to tackle this problem and did so quite effectively. I would call on them to cooperate again in order to protect the community from this activity.”
