Now in its seventh year, the NSPCC Hike Against Cruelty to Kids (HACK) will be back at the breath-taking Mourne Mountains on Saturday 19th September.

This year’s Mournes HACK will again be offering walkers a 14-mile and 20-mile route to choose from, and will cover some of the most spectacular scenery Northern Ireland has to offer, with walkers treated to picture-perfect views of the coast, sea and countryside.

Karen Kerr, Northern Ireland NSPCC community fundraising manager, is encouraging people to get hiking for NSPCC, whether new to walking or a seasoned pro.

Karen told Newry Times, “I’m delighted that the HACK is back for its seventh year and it guarantees to be a great day out for an even better cause. It really is an amazing experience and the perfect way to get fit and take on a challenge for the NSPCC in Northern Ireland.

“Anyone really can do it with some training and encouragement; there is so much support available in the run up to the event and on the day. We’ll help you with fundraising and training, and will have lots of people encouraging you on your way; not to mention tea and buns at the checkpoint and our BBQ at the finish line, which is always a firm favourite,” she continued.

“Every penny raised by the HACK really will make a difference to our vital services in Northern Ireland, which support some of the most vulnerable children and young people.

“This includes our innovative ChildLine Schools Service, which has so far reach almost 700 primary schools in Northern Ireland aims to visit every one by 2016 to teach children about different forms of abuse and ways to stay safe,” Karen added.

For further details and online registration for the Northern Ireland HACK, visit www.nspcc.org.uk/mourneshack or contact the Northern Ireland fundraising office on 028 9035 1135 or hackni@nspcc.org.uk

The HACK is open to people aged 18 years and over and costs just £20 to register for the 14 mile or £25 for the 20 mile route. Once the registration is complete, entrants will receive a walker’s pack outlining their start time and giving further details of the route.

Participants can then begin collecting sponsorship pledges from friends, family and colleagues.

NSPCC are also looking for volunteers to help out at the HACK. Volunteers play a key part in the organising and running of the event and keeping all walkers safe during the day. To volunteer please contact the NSPCC fundraising office on 028 9035 1135 or by emailing hackni@nspcc.org.uk
