‘Substantial amount’ of dollars taken in Warrenpoint burglary
Police in Newry are appealing for information after a member of the community who was visiting home from living in the USA had a substantial amount of dollars stolen.
The woman had been staying at the family home in The Woodlands, Warrenpoint and had left to go out for the day.
While the house was empty a burglar broke in and stole a considerable amount of dollars, all of which was in $50 notes.
Speaking to Newry Times, Constable Graeme Offor said, “The burglary was reported on August 10th and anyone who was in the area of The Woodlands and saw or heard something suspicious is asked to contact Newry police on the non-emergency number 101.
“We are also appealing to banks and Bureau de Change outlets and their equivalent to contact police if anyone attempts to change large amounts of dollars into another currency.
He added, “Anyone who would like to pass information without giving their details can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
