Crossmaglen embankment clean-up volunteers commended
Members of the Crossmaglen Community Association were busy on Tuesday night weeding and tidying up the Newry Road embankment on the way into the town.
Volunteers from the association, which played a key role in getting the embankment initially landscaped, regularly maintain it.
Councillor Terry Hearty, who is a member of the association, praised all those giving up their time to keep the area looking its best. “This is much more than just an embankment; it’s the first thing visitors see when they come into the town, essentially it’s their first impression of the town so it’s important that it’s a good one,” he said.
“The fact that people are willing to come out in the evenings and give up a bit of their time shows a real community spirit and a real pride in our area, which visitors can clearly see when they come here.
Hearty added, “As well as just maintaining the embankment there have also been a number of more recent additions to it, including the new flower bed, all of which adds to the image of the town we’re trying to project.”
