UVF graffiti on Newry memorial a ‘worrying development’ says Brady

Newry & Armagh MP Mickey Brady has said that the painting of the letters ‘UVF’ on a memorial in Newry was a worrying development and was viewed by many as a deliberate attempt to heighten tensions.

Egyptian Arch attack“The daubing of the letters UVF on this memorial is an act of vandalism and sectarian hate,” he told Newry Times.

“Many, including myself, see it as a very deliberate attempt to heighten tensions in the area in the build up to the 12th Orange Celebrations.

“I, along with my party, have always encouraged mutual tolerance and respect. This criminal act flies in the face of those values and I expect all right minded public representatives to condemn it.

Brady added, “No one should react to this inflammatory attack and it should be treated with the contempt it deserves.”
