Newry volunteers recognised for hard work

Around this year’s Volunteers’ Week, Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke recognised their hard-working volunteers by holding celebratory events around the whole of Northern Ireland.

nichs2 The NICHS Post Rehab Exercise Programme in Newry had an eventful afternoon on Tuesday 2nd June when the volunteers received certificates and had a thank-you cake.

They also played boccia bowls and were treated to a shoulder massage by the physiotherapist. For once they were the ones putting their feet up and being looked after.

Anne Norrie, Volunteer co-ordinator at NICHS explained, “Our volunteers donate their life experiences, skills, abilities, compassion, intellect, humour and ask for nothing in return.

“Time is the most precious resource in our lives and that’s what our volunteers give us. This time needs to be valued but how can we put a value on something that is priceless?”

nichs1Wendy Osborne OBE, Chief Executive, Volunteer Now (organisers of the Volunteers’ Week) said, “I am delighted that so many organisations are taking part in this year’s Volunteers’ Week celebrations. The Week marks the positive impact volunteers make on the lives of people and communities.”
