Action Cancer marks Volunteer Week

Action Cancer, Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity marks Volunteer Week 1st – 6th June by thanking all of their dedicated volunteers representing the areas that volunteering opportunities exist within the charity. action cancer2The charity held a celebratory event at the Kings Hall, Belfast on June 4th attended by volunteers from across the country including the dedicated team from their Newry store based in Hill Street. The store, which sells clothing and furniture, is relocating to new larger premises later this month and the volunteer team are eagerly waiting for the doors to open. Action Cancer’s Chief Executive Gareth Kirk, who is committed to offering volunteering opportunities throughout the charity, told Newry Times, “Action Cancer has over 450 active volunteers helping out on a daily basis in shops across the country, at Action Cancer House and in local communities holding events or giving emotional and practical support when it is most needed. It is important to recognise the contribution that our volunteers make to assisting the charity deliver on its purpose of saving lives and supporting people affected by cancer in Northern Ireland. “I recognise the hard work of all Action Cancer’s volunteers who we rely on for their precious gifts of time and experience,” Gareth added. Action Cancer works to save lives and support people affected by cancer in Northern Ireland. It relies heavily on donations from the public and business community to provide a range of vital, life-saving services including digital breast screening services, counselling, complementary therapies and men’s health checks. Action Cancer is an approved centre for both Open College Network and OCR accredited courses.
