The ‘Shining Light’ Community Volunteering Awards were established by the Confederation in memory of Patricia Graham, a dedicated member of the staff team who sadly passed away in 2009. The Awards ceremony which will take place in the Canal CourtHotel, Newry on Thursday 4th June, forms part of Celebrating Volunteers Week and has become a keynote event in the community/ voluntary calendar for this area. Speaking before a meeting of this year’s Independent Adjudication Panel the CCG’s CEO Mr. Raymond Jackson paid tribute to the voluntary work carried out by the multitude of local groups throughout the past year. “Once again we are humbled by the calibre and depth of nominations for our Community Volunteering Awards” said Raymond. “This year’s nominations reflect a commitment and dedication to community life in this area that we are proud to acknowledge and celebrate. “We are particularly indebted to our panel of adjudicators who give of their time to consider the significant number of nominations we have received. “On behalf of the CCG’ s voluntary board I would like to take this take this opportunity to emphasise that the ‘Shining Light’ Community Volunteering Awards are established, not as a competition among groups but as a means to recognise and promote the incredible work of the community and voluntary sector in this area.
