Rostrevor in red hot form: Rostrevor 2-11 Burren 0-7

Rostrevor’s performance matched the weather on Sunday afternoon as they were in hot form from start to finish in this keenly contested tie.

rostrevor7After opening the campaign with a heavy defeat to Kilcoo, the Reds certainly weren’t in the mood for dropping more points here.

They started brightly with opening scores from Colm Clerkin and Anthony Donnan. Conor Doyle and Jordan Fegan were causing problems with their direct running while Christopher Connolly showed well and got himself a well deserved point early on.

Another Clerkin free and Doyle point saw the Reds in control of the game. Conor Magee and Sean Cooper were controlling the midfield with some great clean catches taken, as well as several broken balls to team mates.

The decisive score of the half came after a great run by Gareth Clarke from half back to get on the end of a pass from Fegan and Clarke riffled into the bottom corner. Burren were struggling to get the ball out of defence and managed just three points in the first half leaving it 1-7 0-3 at the break.

The second half began with Burren clawing back another point but normal order was soon resumed with Rostrevor tagging on another point from Conor Doyle.

Doyle then set up Richie Reynolds for another. Burren introduced Ryan Treanor and Brendan McKernan in the second half but the Reds defence kept the young marksmen quiet in the main.

Treanor did add a couple from dead balls but Jordan Fegan sealed the game with a brilliant solo run and finish for the Reds second goal. Burren piled on the pressure in the last few minutes and could have had a goal but for a wonder save from the returning Ciaran Sloan.

In truth they were too far behind at that stage. A good win for the Reds, a great all round performance with Conor Magee outstanding at midfield, as was Sean Cooper.

Rostrevor: Ciaran Sloan, Liam Fegan Caolan Magee Turlach Murphy, Aidan Clarke Gareth Clarke Richie Reynolds, Conor Magee Sean Cooper, Jordan Fegan Conor Doyle Conor Mackin, Anthony Donnan Colm Clerkin Christopher Connolly.
