‘Newry’s Ashgrove residents deserve public meeting’ – McKevitt
SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt has said that she is deeply disappointed after receiving communication that a public meeting to inform residents about proposals to install new antenna and cabinet equipment at the existing mast in Ashgrove, Newry would not be held.
Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said, “I contacted representatives from Arqiva, the communications infrastructure and media services company responsible for the proposals to add new antenna to the mast at Ashgrove, and requested that a public meeting be held to allow the residents of Ashgrove to not only be informed of the proposals, but to give residents the opportunity to have their questions answered.
“I am very disappointed that representatives from Arqiva feel that a public meeting would not be appropriate. I am of the opinion that allowing residents the opportunity to voice their opinion in person, rather than by letter, would be very appropriate.
The local MLA added, “Just recently a productive meeting was held with residents in the Hilltown area on a proposal for a new telecommunications mast. The residents of Ashgrove must be afforded the same opportunity.”
