Call for Slieve Gullion footpath
Sinn Fein Councillor Liz Kimmins has written to Roads Service regarding the possibility of installing a footpath between Meigh and Slieve Gullion Forest Park.
The local representative said she had been contacted by people in the area concerned with safety on the stretch of road.
“I have been contacted by residents in Meigh regarding the lack of a footpath between Meigh village and Slieve Gullion Forest Park and the dangers associated with this,” she said.
“People living in the area cannot walk this road safely, whether it is just to go out for a walk or to access the park. As you will be aware, the number of people using the park has increased significantly since the facilities were upgraded and, as we head into warmer weather, it is imperative that people can walk to and from the park safely.
She added, “I have written to Roads Service requesting they seriously consider the implementation of a footpath at this site and this has been forwarded to the relevant department. I am currently awaiting a response, and will update the people accordingly.”
