Kerr travelled to Bristol with his father last week and was put through his paces.

The club are very proud of the young man with manager Raymond Henshaw commenting that he was “an all-round footballer who takes everything in his stride.”

Henshaw told Newry Times, “Liam is one of the team that I have had the pleasure to coach since he was eight. I watched him grow as a skilful and creative footballer, and enjoyed his infectious personality within the team.

“He is the second from my team to go on trials, after Jake Willet now with Nottingham Forest. This is the first step as Liam builds on a potential career in football.

“We will await the next stage and allow him to continue enjoying his football at Warrenpoint for now,” added Henshaw.

The club board added, “In recent years we have had a number of local players being offered trials and opportunities to play in academies from English based clubs.

“This is a sign of the progress that we as a club have made and the quality of coaching being delivered at the club by our volunteers. We wish Liam well as he continues his football career and will work to ensure every young person has the opportunity to progress to their maximum potential.”
