Road Minister hears Newry residents safety concerns

Road Minister Danny Kennedy recently met with local Councillors Valerie Harte and Charlie Casey, members of the Cole Court Residents Association and residents from the wider area to discuss issues relating to safety concerns.

Local Councillor Valerie Harte explained, “Myself and Charlie Casey along with residents met with Minister Kennedy and an official from Road Service to discuss the need for traffic calming measures and the provision of a footpath to ensure the resident’s safety.

“The installing of another small crossing island was also discussed. The Minister has agreed to do a traffic survey in April to ascertain the volume of traffic using the road and when data is collected we will meet again to discuss the situation and a way forward.

The Newry City Councillor added, “We appreciate the Minister visiting the area and I am hopeful that we will move forward with addressing the issues of concern. I intend to meet with not only Roads Service but other key stakeholders such as Translink to ensure that the concerns of these residents are addressed.”
