Hazzard praises Warrenpoint pupils on CRJ success

South Down MLA Chris Hazzard joined the Minister for Education John O’Dowd at St Marks Warrenpoint recently to celebrate pupils’ success in completing a Community Restorative Justice (CRJ) course.

Speaking at the event the Sinn Féin Education Spokesperson said, “With a focus on mutual respect, shared experience and dialogue, Restorative Justice practises can have a very positive impact in a school or community setting.

“The harmful effects of bullying at school, tensions in the home, or wider community strife can be extremely harmful to the educational outcomes of young people. It is fantastic that these pupils have completed a course in Restorative Justice that can help them deal in future with the effects of such difficult scenarios.

Hazzard added, “Special praise must go to the school leaders at St Mark’s for building this course into the school curriculum and for affording these pupils a great opportunity to develop such a wide range of skills.”
