Calling business volunteers in Newry with a passion for fashion

If your business is based near Newry and you’re up for a fun and life-changing team challenge, Business in the Community would like to hear from you.

The Business in the Community Cares Shops’ Challenge has opened for 2015 and businesses large and small are invited to take over one of Action Cancer’s retail stores for a day – raising profile and raising cash!

As a reward, each team will be treated to a complimentary gala night full of entertainment and laughs – this is an event not to be missed!

The organisation’s Volunteering Manager, Hilary Hanberry explains, “Last year, fourteen teams of business volunteers from a range of companies across Northern Ireland pitted their wits against one another to take on our Shops’ Challenge in aid of Action Cancer.

“They raised a whopping £94,000. Obviously this is of huge benefit to Action Cancer, but the companies involved experienced a range of benefits themselves – raising awareness of early detection amongst staff, team building and skills development, to name a few.”

Eight organisations have already signed up, including: Boots, Cornmarket Insurance, Fujitsu, GE Global, Marks & Spencer, NI Housing Executive, SPAR and The Irish News.

Peter Lynch, Action Cancer Shops’ Manager adds, “Every pound raised makes a real difference to people across Northern Ireland. Since Action Cancer’s BIG BUS went on the road in 2006 we have provided over 24,500 breast screenings and 13,700 MOT health checks which take place on board the bus itself.

“The funds raised through our shops go directly to supporting someone through their treatment, – someone’s mother, daughter or aunt who is facing breast cancer or a dad who has just learned that he has prostate cancer, to name just a few.”

“The money raised during this challenge could be used to help someone you know. Cancer is everywhere and it’s everyone’s responsibility to help reduce the risk, promote early detection or encourage friends to use our services. We hope this year’s challenge is the best ever!”
