Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard has welcomed the opening of the Narina trails at Kilbroney Park. Speaking to Newry Times, Hazzard stated, “It is well known that CS Lewis was inspired by the Mourne Mountains when writing the Chronicles of Narnia therefore the opening of this trail is welcome news for the area and an excellent tourism boost. “The trail will help attract families, especially those with young children to take part in outdoor pursuits and value the flora and fauna of the mountains. “I also hope that children will be encouraged to take up reading the books as part of the experience so it could also become an important educational tool. “While visiting the trails on Saturday I was very impressed and I would like to see similar initiatives being taken in the Mournes to increase tourism and allow the general public to experience and enjoy the beauty of the region,” he added.
