Letters to the Editor, ‘Concern Worldwide thanks the people of Newry’
Dear Editor,
On behalf of Concern Worldwide, I would like to express my sincere thanks to you, the readers of the Newry Times for your generous support in 2014.
Last year, you donated £273,384 to help us tackle hunger in 27 of the world’s poorest countries.
In addition to this, last autumn, the UK government matched your donations pound for pound during our Hunger Stops Here appeal, doubling the difference you made in tackling hunger for thousands of the world’s poorest children.
You helped give them a solid start by ensuring they have enough food to eat and the opportunity to go to school.
To local volunteers and members of the Newry support group, I would like to offer a special word of thanks. The street collection you braved the elements for on Saturday 13th December raised a total of £396. Your commitment and dedication to help us transform lives is a great achievement.
Your support reached millions of people around the world. In 2014 alone, you enabled us to respond to a number of emergencies, including helping to tackle the spread of Ebola. With your support, we continue to fight this deadly virus, which has devastated communities in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Thank you once again for the difference you have made during 2014. Together, we are enabling the world’s poorest communities to make major improvements in their lives which will continue throughout 2015 and beyond.
Wishing all the readers of the Newry Times the very best for 2015.
With warmest wishes,
Peter Anderson – Head of Concern Worldwide, Northern Ireland
