Newry police arrest man for dangerous driving

Police in Newry have arrested a man for dangerous driving.

Officers were on patrol in the Warrenpoint Road area of Newry during the early hours of Sunday, 7th December, when they observed a silver Volkswagen Golf drive through red lights.

The car drove off at speed toward Warrenpoint carriageway and was stung by another police crew. The vehicle drove on and was found in the Mound Road area of Warrenpoint.

The driver made off and a 30 year old male was found in the car. He was arrested for disorderly behaviour, assault on police and resisting arrest. He was later charged to appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court on 31st December.

As is normal procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.

Police arrested a 26 year old man on Wednesday, 17th December, in Warrenpoint for dangerous driving, breach of traffic signs, failing to stop and driving with no insurance. He was later released on bail pending further enquiries.
