CRASH Services named as ‘Leading Lights’ in Road Safety

Accident services provider, CRASH, has been recognised for their commitment to road safety at this year’s Road Safety Authority ‘Leading Lights’ awards on Wednesday 10th December in Farmleigh, Dublin.

Tony McKeown, Sales & Marketing Director at CRASH Services receives a “Leading Lights” award from Liz O’Donnell, Chairperson of Road Safety Authority at Farmleigh, Dublin in recognition for their “All Ireland’s Safest Young Driver Competition”.

CRASH Services were selected for the award in the ‘Business’ category for their innovative ‘Ireland’s Safest Young Driver 2014’ competition.

This involved over 50 young motorists from across Ireland having a telematics device fitted to their car to monitor their driving behaviour. The competition was designed to increase awareness of safe driving among young people by assessing their driving habits and giving them a driving score over the 10 week competition.

The all-island competition was launched this year following the successful Northern Ireland inaugural launch in 2013.

Speaking to Newry Times, a delighted Tony McKeown, Sales & Marketing Director at CRASH said, “We are honoured to have been selected for a ‘Leading Light’ award by the RSA. At a time when road deaths are increasing across the island of Ireland, it is important that all road users focus on the risks when travelling.

“The team at CRASH put a lot of work into the competition and really enjoyed engaging with young drivers about safe driving. New drivers are one of the most high risk groups and should be encouraged to continue to develop their driving skills after passing their driving test.

“Indeed telematics is proving to be a useful aid to inexperienced drivers,” he added.

A total of 24 awards were presented from hundreds of nominations submitted to the RSA this year which included individuals and groups from the business, media, education, emergency service and public sectors.

Irish Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr Paschal Donohoe, said of the award winners, “The ‘Leading Lights in Road Safety’ Award winners this year are truly an example to us all. They have taken it upon themselves to make the roads safer, not just for themselves, but for everyone in their community.

“We can all learn a lesson from these people who truly are ‘leading lights’ in road safety and I congratulate them for their extraordinary commitment to road safety.”

Ms Liz O’Donnell, Chairperson of the RSA said, “The ‘Leading Lights in Road Safety’ Awards Ceremony is one of our most important events of the year, as we reward those who have helped achieve safer roads.

“It is an honour for me to recognise the extraordinary efforts that people all over the country have made, and continue to make, to keep our roads free of tragedy. I urge them and others to keep up the outstanding work they are doing in communities all over Ireland.”
