Lose weight, feel great: Newry set for new dance classes in 2015

Shall We Dance Newry – the popular local dance academy, is calling on the Newry & Mourne community to ‘lose weight and feel great’ by coming along to one of their dancing classes.

The Newry-based academy has announced it will hold new beginners dance classes for all those local men and women who have made it their mission to learn how to dance and get in shape for 2015.

Shall We Dance Newry are also offering group packages for friends and family for 2015 as well as beginners dance classes for the Jive, Salsa, Quickstep, Slow Waltz and Old Time Waltz.

Shall We Dance Newry was launched in 2012 by local dancing supremos Gerald and Patricia Malone from Newry, who have already run successful classes throughout the area.

Gerald and Patricia have won Ballroom and Latin American dancing competitions throughout the UK and Ireland so their experience has left previous groups of beginner dancers with some nifty moves to show off wherever they go.

Dancing, according to the Newry pair, is “the art of getting your feet out of the way faster than your partner can step on them”.

Dancing is a great way to stay in shape and enjoy yourself but Gerald insists it is also a fantastic way to make new friends. “We started dancing 25 years ago and since then we have met so many amazing people and have forged life-long friendships with people from across the country.

He added, “A lot of people want to live a healthier lifestyle, learn to dance and make new friends. Our classes will let you do all three and the most important thing is to enjoy yourself.”

Speaking about the success of his previous classes, “It was fantastic,” insisted Gerald. “The couples have enjoyed themselves tremendously. Some were there to learn the ‘first dance’ before they get married, others were there to enjoy the social element but all just really enjoyed themselves.”

The Newry couple are also offering to share their wealth of dancing knowledge with local couples preparing for the ‘First Dance’ on their Wedding day.

Gerald and Patricia can help you prepare for your first dance as a couple and they are also offering packages for your wedding group party (Fathers, Daughters, Grooms men and Bridal Parties etc.)

With an intensive five week course, taught in one hour sessions, the Newry-based dance teachers can customise your dance routine for your special and favourite song. They will give you and your guests a first dance to remember for years to come.

Patricia explained, “The first dance for your wedding is something that is very special to each and every couple; it is something that you will remember for the rest of your lives. We can help make sure the first dance of your marriage is done in style!

She continued, “If you have a favourite song you would like to learn a dance routine to for your First Dance simply get in touch with us and we will work out a great routine for you.”
