McKevitt celebrates ‘incredible’ St Peter’s result

SDLP MLA for South Down Karen McKevitt has congratulated a local Warrenpoint team on a historic victory in Sunday’s Ulster Intermediate Club Football Championship.

St Peter’s GAA saw off their Monaghan competitors 1-14 to 1-7 to become the first Down club to ever win the McCully cup.

“This is an incredible result for a club who worked tremendously hard to earn this victory,” she told Newry Times.

“As a Warrenpoint local, I was more than a little biased for the boys in blue and was ecstatic when they came out on top. I’d like to give a special congratulations to Man of the Match Ross McGarry who had a spectacular run of points.

McKevitt added, “While it was a fantastic 60 minutes from the players, credit must be also given to the coaches and support staff who I’m sure will be planning on more success in the All-Ireland series.”
