SDLP discuss dangerous road junction
A delegation of SDLP representatives met with the Minister for Regional Development recently at the notoriously dangerous junction which joins the Beech Hill road with the A1 carriageway.
The delegation, which included MLA’s Karen McKevitt and Dominic Bradley and Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick, took the opportunity to raise community concerns with the Minister and called for road safety improvements to be introduced.
MLA for South Down Mrs Karen McKevitt said, “This junction is notoriously dangerous and has been the scene of many road fatalities, most recently it was at this crossing that the tragic accident occurred which claimed the lives of two nuns.
“Action must be taken by Roads Service to make this junction safer for all road users but particularly for the local residents of the area who witness many near miss accidents on a regular basis.
She added, “The Minister for Regional Development listened intently to our concerns during the meeting and we hope that some positive developments will come as a result of our discussions.
