Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin has praised the actions of local Roads Service personnel in the area.

“A number of residents in the Forkhill and Dromintee areas contacted me seeking help to prevent their homes from flooding,” he explained.

“Roads Service reacted promptly to my request for sandbags for these householders and without doubt saved the day. At a time when the Service was under enormous pressure due to the amount of rainfall I would like to commend the local staff for their efforts.”

The local Councillor continued, “It would appear that damage has been caused to the sewerage works in Dromintee by the floods. I have reported this to the Water Service who have assured me that they will investigate this immediately.

He added, “There is still serious amounts of water and debris on the roads, so I would ask drivers to be careful over the next day or two.”
