‘Government must fund language strategy’ – Bradley
SDLP Assembly Member for Newry and Armagh Dominic Bradley MLA has said that the Irish Language Strategy to be published in January 2015 must be funded by government.
Speaking after Question Time in the Assembly on Monday when Mr Bradley asked the Culture Minister who would fund the strategy he said he was ‘in no way reassured by the Minister’s answer’.
“The Minister has made no provision for the implementation of the strategy; she seems to be depending on the largess of departments in the light of one of the most savage budgets the North has seen.
“This is a very risky approach to what is a very import issue, one which lies at the heart of the Good Friday Agreement.
Bradley added, “The SDLP will be raising this issue and the issue of an Irish Language Act during the talk’s process and we will be seeking to ensure that adequate resources are available to implement the strategy.”
