Charlie Casey commends Council for Meadow clean-up
Newry City councillor Charlie Casey has commended Newry Council for their prompt response to deal with fly tipping in the Meadow.
Speaking to Newry Times about the issue Casey said, “After being contacted by several residents and the local Sinn Féin cumann, Derrybeg Martyrs, I called a site meeting at the entry which leads to Killeavy Road from Derrybeg Drive which had become littered with all sorts of rubbish and debris.
“At the meeting it was discovered that the actual pathway was owned by DOE and the two strips of grass area at each end was owned by Housing Executive.
“The fact that we are dealing with several agencies usually ends up being a drawn out affair with no one wanting to take responsibility for the ground in question.
“I then contacted the council cleansing department and to their credit they agreed to carry out a “once off” clean up of the affected area which I thank them for. I hope that the work will be carried out as quickly as possible for the sake of the residents,” he added.
