‘Past needs to be dealt with during Talks’ – Bradley
SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh Dominic Bradley has said that the murder of John Mallon 40 years ago underscores once again the need for the past to be dealt with comprehensively during the current talks process.
“The issue of collusion is a serious one and one which underscores the need for issues of the past to be dealt with and resolved,” he told Newry Times.
“People deserve to know the truth about their loved ones. Those who want investigations to be carried out and, where possible, convictions sought should have their wishes met by the State. Victims and their families deserve at least that.
“That is the challenge facing the current talks. Everyone, including republican and loyalist paramilitaries, as well as state forces must be open to telling the whole truth.
“We have had enough of self-protection, cover-ups and evasion. The only way that we can move forward is on the basis of the full disclosure of truth,” he added.
