Suitable candidates should meet the following:
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: (1) Experience of carrying out historical research (2) Be computer literate, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including word processing, spreadsheets and databases (3) Be able to commit to a minimum of one day per week for six continuous months (preferably a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 10am – 4pm) and; DESIRABLE CRITERIA: (1) Studying towards, or have, a degree in history, or related subject (2) Willing to carry out research at sites other than Newry and Mourne Museum, e.g. in Armagh or Belfast (Travel expenses for such offsite work may be reimbursed.)

Dr Robert Whan, who will supervise the volunteers, said, “This is an excellent opportunity for the two individuals to gain an insight into working in a heritage and museum context. “The volunteers will be able to work alongside museum staff to develop existing skills, as well as learning new skills through training and valuable on-the-job experience.” For further information or to apply, please send an email to robert.whan@newryandmourne.gov.uk detailing how you meet the essential and desirable criteria listed above AND also why you would be interested in the volunteering opportunity. The closing date is Monday 20th October. Thereafter, candidates will be notified if they have been shortlisted for interview.
