Kennedy ‘shocked and disgusted’ at delay into murder investigations

Ulster Unionist MLA Danny Kennedy has expressed his shock and disgust at the news that financial pressures mean that the Police Ombudsman’s office will have to delay its investigation into the Kingsmills massacre.

Speaking to Newry Times, the Newry & Armagh representative said, “I am shocked ad disgusted to learn that budget cuts in the Police Ombudsman’s office will result in a delay into the investigation of the Kingsmills massacre.

“The families of the ten Protestant workmen murdered by the IRA at the side of a road in county Armagh in 1976 have waited nearly 40 years for some measure of truth and justice.

He added, “Their hopes have been repeatedly raised and dashed and to learn of this latest postponement due to a lack of finance is simply intolerable.”
