Forkhill Road resurfacing work to begin

Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin has confirmed that work is about to begin on the resurfacing of a stretch of the Newry / Forkhill Road.

“I have pursued this issue with Roads Service for many months and am glad that they now accept that this work is a priority,” he told Newry Times.

“This news is welcome for residents, pedestrians and motorists alike as this stretch of road had deteriorated badly. The work is scheduled to begin this Monday 22nd of September and should last for two weeks.

“Hopefully all disruption will be kept to a minimum but residents living along the stretch of road from the Three Steps to the Tievecrom junction can contact me at any time to discuss any issues that might arise.

“I will liaise on a regular basis with the contractors and update people of any developments.

He added, “This much needed investment in the infrastructure in the area must be welcomed and I look forward to further road works in our locality commencing over the next few months.”
