Bradley urges local schools and groups to apply for Challenge fund

SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh has welcomed the announcement by the Environment Minister Mark H Durkan of £1.3 million funding from the carrier bag levy for the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Challenge Fund 2015.

Local SDLP MLA Dominic Bradley

Bradley explained, “Since 2011, The NGO Challenge Fund has enabled environmental NGOs, local communities and schools to carry out projects with practical benefits for the environment and heritage of Northern Ireland.

“Due to the overwhelming success of the programme, I would urge schools and local groups interested in enhancing the environment in their areas to consider applying for some of the £1.3m funding for 2015.

“Northern Ireland Environment Link (NIEL) administers the NGO Challenge Fund on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA). Application Forms and Guidance Notes will be available on the NIEL website.

“Applications must be submitted to challengefund@nienvironmentlink.org by noon on Friday 3rd October 2014. The NGO Challenge Fund application pack will be available on the NIEL website www.nienvironmentlink.org.

He added, “Applications from eligible groups are invited to the NGO Challenge Fund and must be submitted to challengefund@nienvironmentlink.org by noon on Friday 3rd October 2014. Successful projects will be announced in late October/early November 2014.”
