‘Union of Students of Ireland support for marriage equality welcomed’ – Ruane
Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has commended the Union of Students of Ireland for passing a motion of support for the marriage equality motion she is bringing before the Assembly on April 29th.
Ruane stated, “The Union of Students of Ireland (USI) which represents over 350,000 students across Ireland has unanimously adopted a motion in support of the marriage equality motion I am bringing before the Assembly.
“As many countries including England and Wales move similar motions it is important that gay and lesbian couples are afforded the same rights here.
“Marriage equality gives gay and lesbian couples equal rights under the law and does not impinge on anyone’s religious rights or beliefs so there is no reason why we can’t have full support.
Ruane added, “I commend the USI for their support on this issue which shows that younger people have a better grasp of ensuring equality for all citizens and this is very welcoming.”
