Two women, 94 and 74 years old, have purses taken in Newry incidents

Police in Newry and Banbridge are appealing for information after two incidents of theft.

On Friday morning, 14th March, a 74 year old woman was shopping in supermarket premises in The Quays, Newry, when she was approached by a young, foreign male who engaged her in covsersation.

The female later discovered her purse had been taken from her bag. The purse contained a bank card and an attempt was made to use the card later in the morning in the Banbridge area.

Later in the morning, a 91 year old woman was shopping in a supermarket on Castlewellan Road, Banbridge, when she was distracted by a male. It is believed a female may have taken the lady’s purse from her handbag in the trolley.

The man is described as dark skinned, in his 20s, of medium build and was wearing dark clothes. It is believed the man and woman may have been travelling in a green Mercedes C200 Sport Auto.

Police are looking at a link between the two incidents and are appealing to anyone who has information in relation to either theft to contact them in Newry or Banbridge on 0845 600 8000, quoting ref: 421140314 or 471140314.
