Ruane commends An Rith success
Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane was in Warrenpoint to welcome An Rith, the race to promote the use of the Irish language when it passed through the town last Friday.
Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane said, “An Rith is a race that takes part covering the length of Ireland as part of the Seachtain na Gaeilge, the celebration of the Irish language.
“I would like to congratulate one of the organisers, local man Marcas Mac Ruairí who ensured that this year it passed through Warrenpoint, Rostrevor and Hilltown as it made it way to Belfast.
“An Rith was just one event during the Seachtain na Gaeilge that allowed people to explore the Irish language. Whether you are Liofa (Fluent) or only have cúpla focal (few words) this was a time to engage with the language and see how it could enrich your life.
‘The language is all around us through people speaking it, children learning it in schools or in place names or local sayings so Seachtain na Gaeilge was the perfect opportunity to bring the language to life.”
Ruane added, “I was be in Warrenpoint to support the runners and help promote the language and the runners had great support as they ran through the town.”
