‘Battle has just begun for DVA jobs’ – Rogers
SDLP South Down MLA Seán Rogers has said that the battle to defend jobs lost after the British Governments decision on the DVA has just begun.
Speaking to Newry Times, Rogers said, “As far as the British government is concerned, the matter of DVA jobs is now settled.
“As far as the SDLP is concerned, the fight to defend those workers whose livelihoods are under acute threat has only just begun.
“My party colleague and Environment Minister, Mark H Durkan, has indicated that he will do all within his power to ensure that those working at DVA are redeployed within the Northern Ireland Civil Service.
“We are determined that this callous, detached decision by the London Government will not force hundreds of talented, skilled workers into unemployment.
The local SDLP MLA added, “The SDLP has tabled the loss of these jobs as a ‘matter of the day’ for the next meeting of the Assembly and my colleague John Dallat will raise it as an urgent oral question. It is imperative that the Assembly reaffirms its commitment to the decentralisation of jobs and supporting communities across the North.”
