Newry doctor ‘punched twice in the face’ in Daisy Hill Hospital assault
Police in Newry are investigating an assault on a doctor at Daisy Hill Hospital.
On Tuesday night, 11th March, a male doctor was treating a female patient when he was assaulted by her male companion.
The doctor was punched in the face twice before the patient and the male made off. The assailant is described as being around 5ft 8in tall and of medium build with brown hair.
Speaking to Newry Times, Constable Lawson, Newry Response, said, “A hospital is a place where everyone should feel totally safe and secure.
“Health care staff carry out vital roles on a daily basis and physical and verbal attacks are extremely distressing and traumatic. Such assaults are totally unacceptable in a civilised society.
Constable Lawson added, “Anyone who engages in violent behaviour against hospital staff should expect to face the full consequences of the law.”
